How to Earn Money as a Bug Bounty Hunter. Are you a coder or white- hat hacker looking to make some money on the side? Bug bounty hunting might be the perfect gig for you. What Is Bug Bounty Hunting? Bug bounty hunting is being paid to find vulnerabilities in software, websites, and web applications. The security teams at major companies don’t have enough time or manpower to squash all the bugs they have, so they reach out to private contractors for help. Basically, you use your tools to break things (or break into things), write up a vulnerability report to the company who’s issued the bounty, then get paid. Some hackers make tens of thousands of dollars a year on the side just hunting bugs. To do it, however, you’ll need to at least know some basic coding and computer skills. Fortunately, we’ve got tons of great resources to help get you started, and coding is pretty easy to teach yourself. That said, if you have no idea what any of this stuff means as you read on, bug bounty hunting probably isn’t for you. We've talked about the best programming languages to get started with, why you should (and…Read more Do Some Research and Get Your Tools. Once you’ve got a grip on basic coding, you need to take a deep dive into web applications and how they work. Lucky for you, there’s tons of great resources out there that can point you in the right direction. Start by reading: Then get the right tools. You’ll need: Then check out the OWASP Web. Goat lab, where you can practice finding bugs and vulnerabilities in web applications, and take a look at the Google Bughunter University as well. Once you’re armed with knowledge and the right tools, you’re ready to look for some bugs to squash. Companies will often have a link somewhere on their website offering bug bounties, but they can be hard to find. You’re better off checking a bounty board where hackers are reading publicly disclosed vulnerability reports and updating an active list on the daily. Like these: Hacker. One also offers Disclosure Assistance, which is a place where a hacker can report any vulnerability to any organization. Even if the organization doesn’t have a vulnerability program, they can contact them and deliver the report. It also helps to join a bug bounty hunter community forum—like those sites listed above—so you can stay up to date on new bounties and tools of the trade. To hunt bugs you also have to be willing to continually learn as you go. Web applications and bug hunting tools are constantly updating, so you need to be on the ball if you want to do things right. Update: A representative of Hacker. One reached out to note their “disclosure assistance” program. The text above has been updated with this information. How to Silence Your Jabbering Coworker. You’ve got problems, I’ve got advice. This advice isn’t sugar- coated—in fact, it’s sugar- free, and may even be a little bitter. Welcome to Tough Love. This week we have a guy who can’t get his annoying coworker to stop talking to him about politics during his lunch break. You’ve got problems, I’ve got advice. This advice isn’t sugar- coated—in fact, it’s sugar- free, and…Read more Keep in mind, I’m not a therapist or any other kind of health professional—just a guy who’s willing to tell it like it is. I simply want to give you the tools you need to enrich your damn lives. If for whatever reason you don’t like my advice, feel free to file a formal complaint here. Now then, let’s get on with it. Hi Patrick,I’ve got this one coworker who just loves to hear himself talk, and for some reason he’s chosen me specifically to be the recipient of his blessings. He keeps coming up to me during lunch breaks wanting to talk European politics. I’m European and interested in politics so with anyone else I would usually welcome this topic; however, he isn’t actually interested in my opinion at all, he just seems to want to show off how much he knows. I know all of these things, probably better than him. But no matter how often I interjected “Yes, I know,” he just kept talking at me, getting louder and louder at every interjection, and keeping up a constant string of “umms” and “aahs” to make sure I couldn’t say anything even when he was picking his next words. I am not very good at communicating when I’m uncomfortable in a situation, so I just sit there staring blankly at nothing while he talks in my general direction. The problem is, since he’s talking about something I actually find interesting, I do occasionally contribute something to the conversation, which obviously keeps him going. I’m pretty sure my other coworkers (with whom I get on very well) have noticed that I am very uncomfortable when this happens, but since he is usually interested in talking to me specifically, they generally stay out of the conversation (can’t say I blame them). How do I communicate to this guy that I don’t care about his opinions and that I don’t want him ruining my lunch breaks? Cheers,Going Deaf. Hey Going Deaf: The first thing you need to do is stop responding to him. At all. I know it’s hard because he’s talking about something you’re actually interested in, but you absolutely cannot respond in any way—even if you have the best retort ever. If you nod and give an occasional “mmm,” he’ll probably keep talking, but if you actually respond with words, he’ll ramble on ‘til the end of days my friend. You probably do know more than this guy, but that does not matter to him in the slightest. He’s seeking self- affirmation by spouting off his own political knowledge and garbage opinions. It’s what makes him feel whole, so if that bugs you, there’s no way you can interact with him and expect anything less than this ancient form of verbal torture. But not responding won’t fix the problem entirely, G- Dizzle. It’s just to keep from encouraging the bastard. Clearly your colleagues aren’t going to save you, and frankly, I wouldn’t dive on that grenade either. So, to stop it for good, you’ll need to take action. Here are a few solutions I recommend: Stop him before he gets started. When you see him approach, hold your hand up like you’re a crossing guard on a hot day and say, “I really can’t chat today, I’m [insert plausible excuse here]” Or, try this alternative that’s worked for me: I close my eyes, point my finger up, and say, “I’m sorry, I’m trying to focus on something right now.” Putting on headphones and acting like you’re concentrating on a hot new audiobook or meditating to gong sounds might work as well. Set a time limit for the conversation, verbally. When he approaches, immediately look at your watch or phone, so he can see it, then say, “I can chat [person’s name], but only for five minutes. What’s up?” Then listen to him without engaging or interrupting. Stop him at the time limit with a line like, “Okay, I’m going to get back to this now,” or “Okay, I’m going to just zone out and enjoy the rest of my lunch for a bit.” He’s more likely to stop because you gave him a reasonable expectation at the beginning of the conversation. He started talking knowing you could only spare five minutes, and that’s what he got. Schedule a time outside of work to talk about politics. Say, “Hey, I’d really like to talk about all this, but I don’t really feel comfortable talking about it at work. Maybe we can grab a coffee and discuss it another time?” Then, here’s the kicker, don’t follow through. Keep putting it off and rescheduling, while being stern about not discussing it at work. Hopefully, he’ll take the hint. Leave during your lunch break. Like, go outside and eat your lunch, grab lunch (and a margarita) at a nearby restaurant, sit in your car with the radio on and your windows open, anything to get away from this guy and save your sanity. Do it enough times and he might finally realize you don’t want to talk to him anymore. Who knows? Maybe he’ll latch onto some other poor sap! Hopefully one of those solutions works for you, Going Deaf. If not, you have to put on your big boy pants and stand up for your own well- being. Tell him straight up that you don’t care about his opinions and that you don’t want him ruining your lunch breaks anymore. I guess you can say it nicer, though, if you want. Something like, “I’m sorry, I don’t want to discuss this stuff with you anymore. I’d appreciate it if you kept these things to yourself.” Or “I really need my personal time during my lunch breaks, so I’d really appreciate it if you’d let me do my own thing.” It will be uncomfortable, sorry. But what’s worse? One awkward, uncomfortable confrontation, or a lifetime of listening to his bullshit? Save yourself. A good conversation is all about the back- and- forth; both parties listening and responding. If…Read more Quickies. Because I just don’t have the time or patience for all of you.. You need someone who understands your feelings and is willing to wait. A retaining wall is built to help stem the erosion of property, to protect a yard from rising water, or to help create a flat space on a sloped piece of land. However, it does not have to be an eyesore because it's functional. Perhaps you are not only looking for purpose from your retaining wall but also an added attractive element to your landscape. You can certainly achieve both. Here's what you need to know to build your own stackable block retaining wall. A retaining wall can hold back a hillside and turn steep slopes into living space—if you pay attention to the basics. Description of retaining wall products from Allan Block that offers different block styles, sizes, colors and more.Retaining walls can be built using materials such as wood, stone, interlocking blocks, bricks, or poured concrete. Each comes with its own benefits and associated costs. Textured retaining wall blocks are available in different colors that can brighten any yard. Different types of colored stones can be used to create patterns in the wall. A wood retaining wall such as Cyprus, mahogany, or redwood brings a classic look to an otherwise boring landscape. The following information will help you decide which look is right for you based on your budget: Landscape Retainer Wall Costs. Retaining wall costs will vary widely with the type of landscape you currently have, the use of your retaining wall, and the material you choose to build a retaining wall with. Wooden retaining walls typically have the highest materials cost but the lowest installation costs. Concrete has the highest installation cost but the lowest materials cost. Interlocking block retaining walls are typically middle- of- the- road in both materials and installation costs, depending on whether or not you use a mortar base or a mortarless wall. A stone retaining wall varies in price due to the large amount of variables associated with it. Most companies will not give you a total estimate for the job because it is almost impossible to accurately estimate the man hours involved with the labor. They usually give you an hourly rate that they charge instead. Most companies charge between $3. Stone Retaining Wall Prices. Stone retaining wall costs typically start around $5 to $1. They can reach higher if a specific type of stone is used. You can save money on materials for a stone wall by finding as many stones as you can to build your stone retaining wall yourself, or you can leave it up to the contractor to supply the materials. Wood Retaining Wall Prices. Wooden retaining walls start at around $2. Hardwoods such as redwood, Cyprus or mahogany will raise the price over $3. Railroad ties are the most commonly used wood for a retaining wall, and prices for this type of wall cost between $2. Untreated or soft woods are not recommended for retaining wall construction due to their susceptibility to rot and water damage. Concrete Retaining Wall Prices. Concrete retaining wall prices start around $3. Walls higher than four feet typically require a different type of form which will raise the cost. A steep slope will require extra work to install the forms, and therefore a higher installation cost. A quick inspection of the site will give the contractor a good estimate of the cost. Block Retaining Wall Prices. Interlocking block retaining walls give you the most versatility in the color and the look of your wall. They also allow you to forego mortar, which will aid in the repairing of the wall if need be. The blocks interlock with each other in such a way that an adhesive is not necessary. The only drawback to this type of retaining wall is the lack of lateral strength it has. If too much water or extra pressure is exerted on the wall, it could fail in spots. Expect to pay between $1. More expensive blocks can hold back more weight and can be stacked higher than cheaper blocks. Brick Retaining Wall Prices. Brick is a very popular material for a retaining wall. It comes in a variety of shapes, size, and color. Reds, grays, and light browns seem to look the best in the landscape setting; earth colors. Depending on the type of brick you purchase, it could cost upwards of $7. It's not cheap, but brick does look amazing. Use Our Free Service and Find Retaining Wall Companies Near You. Build a Retaining Wall - Extreme How To. I love building retaining walls. It’s fun to be out in warm weather cutting big timbers and doing a project that sees quick, upward progress. However, the standard stack of horizontal 6- by- 6′s wasn’t a design that worked for me, so when it came time to design a wall for my own yard, I went looking for something with a little more texture and style but with the same mass and power as a standard style wall. I found it, and all it took was standing those 6- by- 6′s on their head. This post- and- plank system is based on the way seawalls (or bulkheads) work. You set posts into the ground, vertically, then plank behind them. This creates a wall with texture and shadow lines with nice hollows between the posts for plantings or grass. And, because there’s so much post buried in the earth, a wall like this is solid state and resists moving, even if the soil on the hill you’re holding back is mobile. Save yourself some headaches and have the material delivered. Lumber yards with forklifts, can help you stage the material right where you want it. Prep Work. Preparation is key to getting a project off on the right foot. For this one, there were two critical steps to a good kick- off; obtaining a building permit and sourcing materials and equipment. Because my build time is limited (weekends), it’s important to me to source all materials and equipment in one place. This saves phone calls and leg work. For me, this was my local Home Depot. I could purchase all the landscaping supplies including lumber and fasteners, and even rent the excavation equipment, all under one roof. Permit. The easiest way to know if you need a permit (and what’s required if you do) is to call your building inspector’s office and have them walk you through the process. Mine was very helpful and easy to work with. Although building inspectors are busy and shouldn’t be used as a design source, mine offered me some good advice. Materials. The lumber for this wall will be ACQ pressure- treated 6- by- 6 and 2- by- 8′s with double hot- dipped galvanized fasteners. There’s no beating pressure- treated lumber in ground- contact situations. The reason for double hot- dipped galvanized fasteners, as opposed to electro- galvanized or coated, is that the new formula for pressure treating lumber has one serious drawback: It corrodes unprotected steel. The last tip on materials is this: Get it delivered, even if the yard charges for delivery. Lots of DIY- ers like to go to the lumber yard and max out their trucks. With a load as heavy and long as this one, that’s a waste of your time and your truck’s shocks. Equipment. My Home Depot store is also a full- dress rental center, and I was able to rent an AC Prowler, a mini skid- steer. The beauty of this package is that it comes with a bucket and several augers, so I can use it to drill post holes (auger attachment) and move earth (bucket attachment) both for construction prep and final backfill. Hack away a couple of feet of hill with a mattock to loosen it so the loader can cart it away. I took out about 2 feet of hill for this project, but wish I had taken away another 6 inches. Excavation and Layout. So I can have access to the back of the posts later to install the plank, I notch out the hill with the Prowler’s bucket. Next, because I’m building against a sidewalk, I sweep up and layout my post locations, which is 3- feet on center. I mark them in chalk on the sidewalk. If I were doing this elsewhere (like on grass) I’d set up a string between 2- foot rebar rods set 1- foot into the ground to mark where I want the front of the posts to land. Next, I’d set 4. 0- penny spikes in the center of each hole location, and then remove the string so I could work (Don’t remove the rebar; you’ll need it later). We dug 3. 0 4- foot deep holes in one long day with this machine, including all the bucket work. Drill the holes. It’s smart to go down at least 3 feet. This provides the posts the muscle they need to hold back that hill. Cut the posts to length, drop them in the hole, set them to the string height, plumb in both directions, then brace with 2- by at the base. Post Placement and Concrete. Level the Wall Top. Set your layout string up again. It’s important to set the post faces straight along your layout line. In my case, I lucked out with a sidewalk to follow, though I had to use a chipping hammer to carefully remove some concrete below grade to get the posts flush to the edge. To get the wall top level (as opposed to following the grade of the earth) set up a second layout string at the exact height you want your wall to finish out. Securely braced 2- by- 4′s or rebar will work well to hold the string. A line- level will help you get a level string- line. You can also use a laser level. Keep your 2- by- 4 string holders at least 4 feet from the wall location on each end so you have room to work. There’s always that one hole you have to dig by hand. In our case, there was a pile of subterranean concrete impeding a post. A 1. 4- pound chipping hammer does the trick. We held the posts in position with temporary 2- by bracing to make sure they stayed level and plumb. Setting Posts Using Temporary Bridging. With your level string- line in place, you can now measure down to the edge of the hole. Let’s say its 4- feet from the level string line to the hole. Add 3- feet for the hole depth and you know you need a 7- foot tall post. Cut the post to length. Plan for the end you cut to go in the ground, leaving the factory cut end up. Tool Tip: When cutting a 6- by- 6, the idea here is to measure once, cut 5- times. Say you need to cut a 7- foot length of 6 x 6; measure and use a layout square to mark all four faces of the stock. Cut the line, then roll the piece and cut the next line until you’ve cut all the way around. Since a 7- 1/4- inch circ saw won’t cut all the way through, finish the cut with a handsaw or recip saw. To make really quick work of it, use an 8- 1/4- inch circ saw. This cut is likely to be ugly, which is why you want it in ground. Once the posts were plumb and braced, we set each post in 8. Next, measure down from the top of the post 4 feet on each side and draw a line across using a layout square. On the above- grade side of the line on each side, nail or screw a 2- by- 4 scrap to bridge the hole. The scrap should be twice as long as the hole is wide. Drop the post in the hole and use diagonal braces to hold it plumb in all directions. Measure for each post down the line. You may have to shim one side of the bridging to get the post plumb. This can be tricky so take it slowly. Once all the posts are in, nail 2- by- 4 bracing across the top. Tip: Screws or pneumatically driven nails often work best in these applications because there’s no pounding on the material you’re trying to keep stationary (as will happen when using a hammer and nails). And, screws are easiest to remove. The best way to get the concrete to flow around the post bottoms is to mix it in a wheelbarrow and pour it in. Concrete. Next, mix an 8. Keep your garden hose handy to wash away any concrete that gets on the posts. Double- check all posts for plumb and straight in all directions. Adjust as necessary while the concrete is still wet. Start the decking at the top and work your way down. This ensures that all but the last boards, wich finish in the ground, will be even. Drive a nail or screw 1/3 of the way in as a cleat to help hold up long boards. Planking. Ideally, you can wait for the concrete to cure, but since this system is set up with temporary bracing, you don’t have to and you can begin planking, which will actually hold everything in place even better once it’s installed. Be sure the bracing is very stable though, so the posts stay put. Leaving your strings in place help you gauge if the posts are moving or stationary. Start at the top and work down. If your wall is longer than the lumber you order, you’ll have to splice the planks. Always splice them on a post and stagger your joints as far away from each other as your materials will allow. To make life easy, I set a screw as a cleat to hold each plank where I want it, then use a cordless impact driver to set four 3- inch deck screws per joint. I also use weather- proof construction adhesive to get a really solid bond and resist cupping. For the sides, I ran a kicker between posts rather than excavating the entire hill. The kicker, wihich rests underground on the exterior side of the decking acts as a nailing surface for the return walls.

Fedora Linux allows you to do operating system installations via a network connection using a Kickstart server. It is frequently much faster than using CDs and the process can be automated. The procedure is fairly simple. Connect the new server (installation client) to the same network as the server with the pre- loaded installation files (installation server). Boot the installation client from a specially created boot CDEnter your preferred installation method (FTP, HTTP, NFS) and the needed network parameters to do this. The installation procedure will then continue with the more familiar Fedora Linux installation screens. Enter your selections and then complete the installation. This chapter will briefly explain how to set this up using all three methods using a single installation server (bigboy) with an IP address of 1. Setting Up The Kickstart Server. Kickstart can be configured on an FTP, NFS or Apache server. Each method is explained below, but my experience has been that the Apache server has a number of advantages over the other two. Using a web server for kickstart is generally easier because. Sometimes a kickstart server has to be located on a remote network, often passing through a firewall. Strict firewall rules for HTTP are generally easier to configure than those for FTP or NFS. The http: // nomenclature used by kickstart for accessing files is more familiar to users than that used for NFS and FTP. This may be important for you when configuring files for automated kickstart installation. Basic Preparation. In this example we are going to set up a kickstart server that will be used in Fedora Core installations. All the necessary files will be placed in the /data/network- install directory. Create The Installation Directories. We'll first create the directories /data/network- install/RPM and /data/network- install/ISO in which we will copy the necessary files. RPM. [root@bigboy tmp]# mkdir - p /data/network- install/ISO. You now need to place the network installation driver files into the base directory. Copying The Files. The HTTP, NFS and FTP kickstart methods all require the base set of Fedora files to be installed on the kickstart server. Here's how to do it. Create a mount point for your CD ROM drive. Mount your first Fedora CD ROM. Copy the files from the CD ROM base directory to the hard disk. RPM. 4) Unmount your CD ROM and use the eject command to retrieve it from the drive bay. Repeat steps 2 to 4 with all your CDROMs. Overwrite files when prompted. Note: Note: You also have the option to FTP all the files of the desired version of Fedora from the Fedora website to the /data/network- install/RPM directory. HTTP & FTP Preparation. Copy all the contents of each installation CD to the /data/network- install/RPM directory. This will require about 3- 5 GB of space. When this is completed, your /data/network- install/RPM directory should look like this. RPM. README- Accessibility. RELEASE- NOTES- en_US. RPM- GPG- KEY- beta. RPM- GPG- KEY- fedora. RPM- GPG- KEY- fedora- extras. RPM- GPG- KEY- fedora- legacy. RPM- GPG- KEY- fedora- rawhide. RPM- GPG- KEY- fedora- test. RPM- GPG- KEY- rawhide. NFS Preparation. Create ISO images of the installation CDs and place them in the /data/network- install/ISO directory. This will require about 3- 5 GB of space as well. You can download the ISO images from the Fedora website or use the Fedora CDs as shown below. If you create the ISOs files from CDs, make sure they have the same file names as the ones you can download from the Fedora Web site. Follow these steps for each CD, substituting the filename where necessary. ISO. [root@bigboy ISO]# dd if=/dev/cdrom of=filename. ISO]# eject cdrom. Note: Here is a sample procedure to make ISO files with the older mkisofs command. You may have to install the mkisofs RPM on newer Fedora versions. The command requires a mounted CDROM drive, so don't forget the mount command. ISO]# mount /mnt/cdrom. ISO]# mkisofs - J - r - T - o filename. ISO]# eject cdrom. Setup Your Webserver. You will now have to setup Apache to give the file listings of your /data/network- install/RPM and /data/network- install/ISO directories by pointing your browser to the URL http: //1. RPM/ or http: //1. ISO/ respectively. A sample /etc/httpd/conf. Remember to restart Apache to make these settings take effect. Name. Virtual. Host 1. For HTTP Installations. Virtual. Host 1. 92. Server. Name 1. 92. Document. Root /data/. Virtual. Host>. Directory /data/network- install>. Options +Indexes. Allow. Override Auth. Config. order allow, deny. Directory>. Setup Your FTP Server. You'll also have to set up your VSFTPD server to make incoming anonymous FTP connections log in to the /data/network- install/RPM directory by default. You will also want to enable the correct logging. Here is a sample snippet of the vsftpd. Remember to restart VSFTPD to make these settings take effect. File: vsftpd. conf. Anonymous FTP Root Directory. RPM. # Log file definition. YES. xferlog_file=/var/log/vsftpd. Create A Special FTP User. You can also create a special user for non anonymous FTP installations with its home directory as "/". You must also make sure that the user has read access to the /data/network- install directory. An example is below. Changing password for user ftpinstall. Retype new password. Setup Your NFS Server. The steps for setting up an NFS server are more complicated. Create a /etc/exports file with the following entry in it. You must use tabs, not spaces between the entries. Make sure that the rpcbind (portmap on older versions of Linux) , nfs, nfslock and netfs daemons are all running to create an NFS server. The startup scripts for these are found in the /etc/init. Chapter 2. 9, "Remote Disk Access with NFS", will explain this in more detail. Run the exportfs command to add this directory to the NFS database of network available directories. The installation client must have a matching pair of forward and reverse DNS entries on your DNS server. In other words, a DNS lookup on the IP address of the installation client must return a server name that will map back to the original IP address when a DNS lookup is done on that same server name. This may mean that you will have to create entries for all your DHCP IP addresses if you choose to use a DHCP method of assigning IP addresses during installation. Configure Your DHCP Server. During the installation procedure, the installation client will prompt you for the IP address it should use for the installation process. I recommend selecting the option that makes the Installation Client get its address via DHCP. This will automate the installation more and will therefore make it faster. It will also reduce the possibility of human error. Setting up the Installation Server as a DHCP server is fairly straight forward and can be found in Chapter 8, "Configuring the DHCP Server". Creating A Kickstart Boot CDCreating a kickstart boot CD is easy to do. Here are the steps. Your RPM directory should have a subdirectory named images in it. There will be a file there named boot. Linux from DVD or CD. Fedora mirror sites that have directory structures similar to that of the DVD also have a boot. Fedora/i. 38. 6/os/images/ directory. This file is different in both size and function to that on your DVD. It usually larger than 1. MB in size and it is the boot file you need for kickstart. Download the boot. Fedora/i. 38. 6/os/images/boot. You will now need the device name of your CDROM device. This can be obtained using the wodim command. In this case it is called /dev/scd. Overview of accessible drives (1 found) . LITE- ON' 'DVDRW LH- 2. A1. P'. - -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- . Insert a blank CD. The wodim command can now be used again to burn the boot. ISO image file to the CD. M - dao - eject - overburn - v boot. BURN- Free was never needed. RPM]#. Keep the CD. You will soon need it for your kickstart client machine. The Network Installation. From here on, the installation procedure mimics the regular Linux installation, except for the first couple steps. Connect your client Linux box to the DHCP network. Boot your system using the kickstart boot CD. This is the only CD you'll need for future network installations. A menu will appear. Select “Install or upgrade an existing system”. Go through the usual steps until the process prompts for the "Installation Method". You will see a number of choices. Partner Perspectives. Hi everyone, today we’ll learn how to install Visual Studio Code in Linux Distributions. Apache DirectoryVisual Studio Code is a code- optimized editor based on Electron, a piece of software that is based on Chromium, which is used to deploy io. It is a source code editor and text editor developed by Microsoft for all the operating system platforms including Linux. Visual Studio Code is free but not an open source software ie. It is an awesome powerful and fast code editor for our day to day use.
Some of the cool features of visual studio code are navigation, intellisense support, syntax highlighting, bracket matching, auto indentation, and snippets, keyboard support with customizable bindings and support for dozens of languages like Python, C++, jade, PHP, XML, Batch, F#, Docker. File, Coffee Script, Java, Handle. Bars, R, Objective- C, Power. Shell, Luna, Visual Basic, . Net, Asp. Net, C#, JSON, Node. Javascript, HTML, CSS, Less, Sass and Markdown. Fedora has a reputation for. System administrators may install and maintain software. All source code for the Origin project is available under the Apache. Apache StudioVisual Studio Code integrates with package managers and repositories, and builds and other common tasks to make everyday workflows faster. The most popular feature in Visual Studio Code is its debugging feature which includes a streamlined support for Node. Note: Please note that, Visual Studio Code is only available for 6. Linux Distributions. Here, are some easy to follow steps on how to install Visual Sudio Code in all Linux Distribution. Downloading Visual Studio Code Package. First of all, we’ll gonna download the Visual Studio Code Package for 6. Linux Operating System from the Microsoft server using the given url http: //go. Link. ID=5. 34. 10. Here, we’ll use wget to download it and keep it under /tmp/VSCODE directory as shown below.# mkdir /tmp/vscode; cd /tmp/vscode/# wget https: //az. VSCode- linux- x. VSCode- linux- x. Resolving az. 76. Connecting to az. HTTP request sent, awaiting response… 2. OKLength: 6. 49. 92. M) [application/octet- stream]Saving to: ‘VSCode- linux- x. MB/s in 4. 1s. 20. MB/s) – ‘VSCode- linux- x. Extracting the Package. Now, after we have successfully downloaded the zipped package of Visual Studio Code, we’ll gonna extract it using the unzip command to /opt/directory. To do so, we’ll need to run the following command in a terminal or a console.# unzip /tmp/vscode/VSCode- linux- x. Note: If we don’t have unzip already installed, we’ll need to install it via our Package Manager. If you’re running Ubuntu, apt- get whereas if you’re running Fedora, Cent. OS, dnf or yum can be used to install it. Running Visual Studio Code. After we have extracted the package, we can directly launch the Visual Studio Code by executing a file named Code.# sudo chmod +x /opt/VSCode- linux- x. Code# sudo /opt/VSCode- linux- x. Code. If we want to launch Code and want to be available globally via terminal in any place, we’ll need to create the link of /opt/vscode/Code as/usr/local/bin/code .# ln - s /opt/VSCode- linux- x. Code /usr/local/bin/code. Now, we can launch Visual Studio Code by running the following command in a terminal.# code . Creating a Desktop Launcher. Next, after we have successfully extracted the Visual Studio Code package, we’ll gonna create a desktop launcher so that it will be easily available in the launchers, menus, desktop, according to the desktop environment so that anyone can launch it from them. So, first we’ll gonna copy the icon file to /usr/share/icons/ directory.# cp /opt/VSCode- linux- x. Then, we’ll gonna create the desktop launcher having the extension as . Here, we’ll create a file named visualstudiocode. VSCODE/ folder using our favorite text editor.# vi /tmp/vscode/visualstudiocode. Then, we’ll gonna paste the following lines into that file.[Desktop Entry]Name=Visual Studio Code. Comment=Multi- platform code editor for Linux. Exec=/opt/VSCode- linux- x. Code. Icon=/usr/share/icons/vso. Type=Application. Startup. Notify=true. Categories=Text. Editor; Development; Utility; Mime. Type=text/plain; After we’re done creating the desktop file, we’ll wanna copy that desktop file to /usr/share/applications/ directory so that it will be available in launchers and menus for use with single click.# cp /tmp/vscode/visualstudiocode. Once its done, we can launch it by opening it from the Launcher or Menu. Installing Visual Studio Code in Ubuntu. We can use Ubuntu Make 0. Visual Studio Code in Ubuntu 1. This method is the most easiest way to setup Code in ubuntu as we just need to execute few commands for it. First of all, we’ll need to install Ubuntu Make 0. To install it, we’ll need to add PPA for it. This can be done by running the command below.# add- apt- repository ppa: ubuntu- desktop/ubuntu- make. This ppa proposes package backport of Ubuntu make for supported releases. More info: https: //launchpad. Press [ENTER] to continue or ctrl- c to cancel adding itgpg: keyring `/tmp/tmpv. A1. 23. 15. 95: public key “Launchpad PPA for Ubuntu Desktop” importedgpg: no ultimately trusted keys foundgpg: Total number processed: 1gpg: imported: 1 (RSA: 1)OKThen, we’ll gonna update the local repository index and install ubuntu- make.# apt- get update# apt- get install ubuntu- make. After Ubuntu Make is installed in our ubuntu operating system, we’ll gonna install Code by running the following command in a terminal.# umake web visual- studio- code. After running the above command, we’ll be asked to enter the path where we want to install it. Then, it will ask for permission to install Visual Studio Code in our ubuntu system. Then, we’ll press “a”. Once we do that, it will download and install it in our ubuntu machine. Finally, we can launch it by opening it from the Launcher or Menu. Conclusion. We have successfully installed Visual Studio Code in Linux Distribution. Installing Visual Studio Code in every linux distribution is the same as shown in the above steps where we can also use umake to install it in ubuntu distributions. Umake is a popular tool for the development tools, IDEs, Languages. We can easily install Android Studios, Eclipse and many other popular IDEs with umake. Visual Studio Code is based on a project in Github called Electron which is a part of Atom. Editor. It has a bunch of new cool and improved features that Atom. Editor doesn’t have.
